Vewlix vs Noir layout

Both layouts give you eight buttons in two rows. The difference is the curve of those rows, and it decides where your fingers naturally rest.

Vewlix

The Vewlix layout copies the control panel of Taito's Vewlix arcade cabinet, released in 2007. The top row arcs upward from the first button, following the natural curve of your fingers. It's the standard in Japanese arcades, including for Tekken, and the most common layout on high-end sticks.

Vewlix: the top row arcs upward from the first button.

Noir

The Noir layout is flatter. The first button sits lower, and the remaining buttons run in a straighter line. Some players find it more comfortable if they play with a flat hand or rest their wrist on the case.

Noir: a flatter, straighter arrangement.

Which suits Tekken?

Tekken only needs four attack buttons, usually 1 and 2 on the top row with 3 and 4 underneath. On either layout those four sit under your index and middle fingers, so both work well.

  • Choose Vewlix if you'll play on arcade cabinets or at events, so your muscle memory transfers.
  • Choose Noir if a flatter hand position feels more natural to you.

A quick hand test

Rest your right hand on a table with your fingers relaxed and slightly curled. If your fingertips form a clear arc, Vewlix will feel natural. If they sit in a fairly straight line, try Noir.
